Our Covid Plan

Our campers' safety is our number one priority.
We have developed a responsible and common sense COVID safety plan

CORONAVIRUS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Health Checks. Campers temperatures will be taken daily upon drop off via a no-touch infrared thermometer. Children will not be allowed to attend camp if they have a temperature above 100.4*F and must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to camp.  For fever that persists for more than 24 hours, Campers may be required to obtain a negative COVID test before returning to camp. Campers/parents should be prepared to verbally answer some basic questions to evaluate potential exposure to COVID-19. Campers may be denied participation at Camp Suburban based on COVID-19 exposure concerns in the sole discretion of Camp Suburban and/or Suburban Club. You agree to immediately notify Camp Suburban and the Suburban Club if your child, you, or anyone in your immediate family/household has been diagnosed with or tested positive for COVID-19 within 21-days of your child’s enrollment at Camp Suburban.

(Please review this flow chart provided by the State of Maryland for day camps to review our process for prohibiting campers.)

CDC and Maryland State COVID Guidelines.  We will abide by Maryland and CDC COVID guidelines.  This includes the health checks and keeping contact records as described above.  Obviously these guidelines and regulations change often, so we will abide by the latest and most up to date best practices and regulations.

(Please review the current State of Maryland guidelines for day camps here.)

Food. Camp Suburban will include a lunch period. As of now, Campers must include a packed lunch as well as an appropriate snack and a reusable water bottle. We WILL provide Sno-Balls or other frozen treats to the campers. Campers will be seated outdoors and separated with only a few campers at each table.  Bunks will eat together without co-mingling.

Group Sizes and Social Distancing. Group Sizes will be limited to 15 maximum, per the CDC and Maryland guidelines (subject to changes as applicable), which will include any staff, counselors, volunteers, and instructors. Campers will be reminded to practice social distancing and we will engage in appropriate social distance-friendly activities including golf, tennis, swimming, and outdoor games.

Bunk "Pods".  Bunk groups will be kept together for the entire week.  While multiple bunks may be at the same activity together (for example, in the pool) we will require the campers to stay with their bunkmates and practice social distancing from the other campers.  Staff is trained to help enforce social distancing and avoid co-mingling with other bunk pods.

Facemasks. We require all children to come to camp with a size-appropriate face mask. While we will not require the facemasks to be worn outdoors when social distancing is possible during active programs (sports, games, swimming), we will require facemarks for stationary actives (arts & crafts, STEAM). If it becomes necessary to use any indoor facility or it is impossible to be socially distanced (e.g., if a camper requires acute medical care), the camper must wear his or her facemask.

Outdoor vs. Indoor Activities.  As of now, all of our programming is outdoors.  Suburban Club facilities include large 'wedding tent' facilities with overhead fans as well as a screened-in patio  to provide shade and relief from being in the sun all day.  We have reserved indoor spaces for limited uses (e.g., bathroom/changing facilities, rainy days, health suite).  Anytime the campers must go indoors we will require facemasks.  If COVID restrictions are eased due to decreased risk, as governed by the CDC, state, and local health regulations, we may open up more indoor activities (only if it is safe to do so!).

Cleaning. We will clean all touchable surfaces no less than daily. Sports equipment and other equipment will be wiped clean with disinfectant between uses. We will also have regular opportunities for the campers to wash their hands thoroughly and/or use hand sanitizer with adult supervision in between activities.

Rain-Outs or Health Closures. For extreme weather, we may cancel camp. During rainy days we may include indoor programing during which campers will need to wear face masks. If Camp must be cancelled for health reasons, we will work with parents but cannot guarantee refunds or other remedies.

COVID waiver. While we will do everything we can reasonably do to keep our campers safe and well, we cannot guarantee that one or more campers/staff may inadvertently transmit COVID-19 to other campers or their families. By sending your child to a group camp and allowing them to participate in group activities, you acknowledge and agree that there is a risk of your child, you, or other family members being infected with COVID-19 as a result of contact at Camp Suburban. In the event your child, you, or someone in your family is infected via such contact, you expressly agree to waive any claims you may have and hold Camp Suburban and Suburban Club harmless from any liability associated therewith.
